Upgrading from CityLaw or CountyLaw to CLNG
CLNG is the next generation of the system you already know, rebuilt from the ground up on current technology.
What stays familiar
This is an upgrade within the same product family. CLNG is still legal case management for city and county law offices, organized around matters, deadlines, documents and reports, and the vocabulary will be familiar.
How setup works
- Approval from a setup link. A Microsoft 365 Global Administrator approves CLNG from a setup link, which takes about five minutes. Before that, we walk your IT team through what CLNG is allowed to do.
- Document storage. Your CLNG administrator then finishes document storage setup inside CLNG, where CLNG creates a private Microsoft 365 group for your office or adopts one your IT team has made.
- User accounts. Each person who will use CLNG needs a Microsoft 365 account with a mailbox, and SharePoint and Office for the web licensing. You invite them, with a role.
- Workstations with a current web browser.
The Security page explains where your documents are kept and who can open them.
Bringing your records over
We plan this part with your office. You provide your CityLaw or CountyLaw records, a database backup, your document folders or both, and we agree the steps and the go-live date together.
- Your IT team runs a small Windows program on your network. It reads your document folders and never changes them.
- Its first step sends us only folder and file names, sizes and dates, never the documents themselves. Documents are copied only after we review and approve the plan with you.
- You check your matters and files in CLNG before go-live.
Getting your people ready
The CLNG Help Center has a general user training course, training notes for the Assignments and Litigation modules, and release notes for every version. When something is unclear, call 888-292-6688 or emailsupport@cycominc.com.
Plan your upgrade with us
Every office's upgrade is different, so we plan it with you. It helps to bring these to the first conversation:
- Which modules your office uses today.
- Who administers your Microsoft 365 tenant and can approve CLNG.
- Your form letters and templates, and the reports your office runs regularly.
- How many people will use CLNG, and in which roles.

Questions about upgrading
Do we need Microsoft 365 to use CLNG?
Yes. People sign in with their Microsoft 365 accounts, CLNG stores matter documents in your Microsoft 365 tenant, and email is imported from Outlook. Every user needs an account with a mailbox and SharePoint and Office for the web licensing. Commercial and GCC tenants are supported; GCC High and DoD are not.
Is single sign-on supported?
Yes. CLNG uses Microsoft Entra single sign-on, so people sign in with their own Microsoft 365 accounts and your multi-factor policies apply.
How do our records get into CLNG?
We plan it with your office. You provide your CityLaw or CountyLaw records, a database backup, your document folders or both, and we agree the steps and the go-live date together. A small Windows program your IT team runs reads your document folders without changing them, and its first step sends us only folder and file names, sizes and dates. Documents are copied only after we review and approve the plan with you, and you check your matters and files in CLNG before go-live.
Who do we talk to about upgrading?
Request a demo or contact us. We plan every upgrade with the office, because offices differ in the modules they use and the history they keep.
